Step 1
- Add the ketchup, brown sugar, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to a medium saucepan. Whisk everything together until smooth and well combined.
Step 2
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir frequently until the brown sugar dissolves. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Step 3
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and divide the cooked BBQ sauce evenly among three small bowls or jars. Leave enough room in each container for the additional flavor ingredients.
Step 4
- Flavor each portion separately. For the Sweet Honey sauce, stir in the honey and molasses. For the Smoky Bourbon sauce, stir in the bourbon whiskey and liquid smoke, then return it to low heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring gently. For the Spicy Chipotle sauce, stir in the chipotle powder and cayenne pepper.
Step 5
- Let all three sauces cool completely. Transfer them to clean, airtight containers, cover, and refrigerate until ready to use. Stir each sauce before serving if needed.
