Step 1
- Set the oven to 350°F (175°C) and let it heat while you prepare the batter. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with a little butter or oil. Line the bottom with parchment paper for easier removal.

- Add the honey, oil or melted butter, and milk or water to a large bowl. Whisk until well combined. Sprinkle in the ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, then mix until the spices are evenly blended.

- Whisk baking powder and baking soda with the flour, gradually incorporating this mixture into the wet ingredients to form a smooth batter. Keep the mixing gentle so the cake stays tender. If you’re adding walnuts, fold them in now. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and level the surface.
Step 4
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the top turns lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean. Leave the cake in the pan for about 10 minutes, then move it to a wire rack to finish cooling. Slice once completely cool and serve.
