Step 1: Mix The Base
- In a medium saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, honey (or maple syrup), molasses, and water. Stir everything together until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
Step 2: Add Seasonings
- Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, mustard powder, chili powder (if you like heat), cinnamon, liquid smoke, sugar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and a splash of lemon juice. Whisk well so all the flavors blend together.
Step 3: Simmer Until Thick
- Set the pan over medium heat and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Lower the heat and let it cook for about 10–15 minutes, or until it reaches the thickness you like.
Step 4: Taste & Store
- Give the sauce a taste and tweak the sweetness, tanginess, or spice if needed. Take it off the heat and let it cool a bit. Pour it into a jar or bowl. You can use it right away, or keep it in the fridge for later.
