Ingredients

Chocolate Cake Base
  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • Ingredients listed on the box typically: eggs, vegetable oil, water
Cream Cheese Layer
  • 225 g cream cheese
  • 113 g butter
  • 240 g powdered sugar
Fudge Topping
  • 170 g chocolate chips
  • 60 g chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 40 g shredded coconut

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls (2–3 sizes)
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • 9×13-inch baking pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups & spoons
  • Oven

Method

Step 1
  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Make the German chocolate cake batter using the instructions on the box. Pour the batter into the pan and spread it out evenly.
Step 2
  1. In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, melted butter, and powdered sugar. Mix until it turns smooth and creamy. Spoon this mixture over the cake batter in small dollops. Do not mix it in just leave it sitting on top.
Step 3
  1. Sprinkle chocolate chips, chopped nuts, and shredded coconut over the top. Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly soft. Let it cool completely before cutting into pieces.
