Bono's BBQ Sauce Recipe

Bono’s BBQ Sauce Recipe is a rich homemade sauce featuring tomato, vinegar tang, gentle spice, and savory depth. I have old experience preparing BBQ sauces, so I wanted to create this version again after remembering how enjoyable homemade flavors can be.

Ingredients

  • cups ketchup
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar
  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan and whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Step 1
  1. Pour the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, dark brown sugar, yellow mustard, and water into a medium saucepan. Give everything a good whisk until the sugar begins to dissolve and the mixture turns smooth.
Step 2
  1. Add the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir well so the seasonings blend evenly into the sauce. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce. Set the saucepan over medium heat and let the sauce come to a gentle simmer.
Step 3
  1. Turn the heat down to low and let the sauce simmer for 12 to 15 minutes. Stir it from time to time as it cooks. It will slowly thicken and take on a rich, sweet, tangy flavor.
Step 4
  1. Take the saucepan off the heat and allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes. Give it a taste and add a little more seasoning if needed. Pour the finished sauce into a clean jar or airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
