Ingredients

  • 2 medium fresh beets peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 medium cucumber peeled and diced
  • 1 medium orange peeled and segmented
  • 1 large Gala or Fuji apple cored and chopped
  • 2 medium carrots peeled and cut into pieces
  • 1- inch piece fresh ginger peeled
  • ½ lemon peeled and seeds removed
  • ½ teaspoon sumac

Equipment

  • Juicer or high speed blender
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Serving glasses
  • Large measuring jug or bowl
  • Fine mesh strainer (if using a blender)

Method

Step 1: Get Everything Ready
  1. Rinse all the fruits and vegetables under cold running water. Peel the beets, carrots, cucumber, ginger, lemon, and orange. Remove the apple core, then chop everything into small, even pieces so they fit easily into your juicer or blender.
Step 2: Extract The Juice
  1. Add the ingredients to your juicer, switching between the firmer vegetables and softer fruits to help everything process evenly. For a blender, combine all the chopped ingredients and pour in ½ to 1 cup of cold water. Blend until the mixture becomes smooth.
Step 3: Strain And Add Flavor
  1. For blended juice, pour the mixture through a fine strainer or a layer of cheesecloth to separate the juice from the pulp. Stir in the optional sumac if you enjoy a gentle citrusy tang, then mix until well combined.
Step 4: Pour And Enjoy
  1. Fill chilled glasses with the fresh beet juice and add ice if you like it extra cold. Drink it right away for the freshest taste. Give it a quick stir before serving since fresh juice naturally separates over time.
