Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons roasted barley kernels or 1–2 roasted barley tea bags
  • 4 cups water

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or kettle
  • Fine mesh strainer (if using loose barley)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Heat resistant mug, teapot, or pitcher

Method

Step 1
  1. Start by pouring water into a saucepan and heating it until it begins to gently boil. Once it’s boiling, add the roasted barley grains (or barley tea bags). Let it simmer for around 8–10 minutes so the water absorbs the toasted, nutty flavor from the barley.
Step 2
  1. Take the saucepan off the heat. If you used loose barley grains, strain the liquid into cups or a pitcher to remove them. You can enjoy the tea warm right away, or let it cool and place it in the refrigerator if you prefer it chilled.
