Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons loose black tea or 2 black tea bags
  • 3 –4 green cardamom pods lightly crushed
  • 4 –5 whole cloves
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1- inch piece fresh ginger roughly crushed
  • A small pinch of saffron strands
  • 2 –3 teaspoons sugar or to taste

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Mortar & pestle (or spoon for crushing spices)
  • Tea strainer
  • Measuring cups & spoons
  • Serving cups

Method

Step 1: Let The Spices Infuse
  1. Pour water into a saucepan and add crushed cardamom pods, cloves, a cinnamon stick if you like, and freshly crushed ginger. Place it over medium heat and bring it to a soft boil. Lower the heat slightly and let everything simmer for about 3–4 minutes, allowing the spices to release their full fragrance and flavor.
Step 2: Brew The Tea With Milk
  1. Add the black tea to the spiced water and let it simmer for around 2 minutes. Then pour in the milk and stir in the sugar. Keep the mixture gently simmering for another 3–4 minutes. If you’re using saffron, add it at this stage. The tea should gradually turn a deeper, richer color as the flavors blend together.
Step 3: Strain And Enjoy
  1. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Carefully strain the tea into cups using a fine sieve to catch the spices. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy the warm, comforting flavors.
