Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons loose black tea or 2 black tea bags
  • 1 cup evaporated milk or whole milk for a lighter taste
  • 3 green cardamom pods lightly crushed
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 pinch ground ginger or 2–3 thin slices of fresh ginger
  • Sugar to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Equipment

  • Small saucepan or pot
  • Tea strainer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spoon for stirring

Method

Infuse The Spices And Tea
  1. Pour 2 cups of water into a small saucepan and add the crushed cardamom, cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger, and black tea. Place over medium heat and bring it just to a gentle boil. Let it simmer for 2–4 minutes so the spices release their full aroma.
Add Milk And Sweetness
  1. Turn the heat down a little and stir in evaporated milk (or whole milk) along with sugar to your liking. Sprinkle in a pinch of ground nutmeg and let it simmer for another 1–2 minutes, making sure it doesn’t boil over.
Strain And Serve
  1. Take the pan off the heat and strain the tea into cups using a fine mesh strainer if you used loose tea or whole spices. Serve it hot and savor the warm, spiced flavors of Adeni Tea.
